Chief Executive Officer of EDP, David Skews was recently praised in Singapore for a Workplace Safety and Health workshop that he presented in July.

David Skews founded EDP Health, Safety and Environment Consultants Ltd in 1989 and has since opened up several establishments worldwide, one of which he launched in Singapore in 2007. At the workshop, David expressed his views on health and safety within the workplace making references to corporate social responsibility.

The workshop focused on the importance of values, signifying that they were and should continue to be the core necessities within any organisation. David highlighted that values are connected to the bottom line, despite many business leaders believing otherwise. He also pointed out that, although incorporating and maintaining values may not at first show any impact on the balance sheet he stressed that it was essential to uphold and review the values on regular basis rather than neglecting them all together.

Using an example of the human body, David accentuated that values are the immune system of every organisation and encouraged companies to think more about their values then their ‘numbers’.

Those who attended the workshop provided feedback and the statistics showed that:

All participants agreed that their safety awareness had increased after the training.

They all also agreed that their attitude towards safety had improved after the training and that they were all committed to safety after the training.

75% of participants thought that the workshop was ‘very informative’ about health and safety within the workplace.

90% of participants thought that David Skews presentational skills were either ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.

All participants were pleased with the presentation conducted by David Skews, and the feedback showed excellent indication of how the participants took safety awareness on board.

David said “I truly believe that one-day, and it is not so far away now, that the this post-modern business world will wake up, scales will fall from their eyes and see that shareholder value is not the sole purpose of business and that without true values focused on building TRUST must remain at the centre of business thinking. Their immune system will remain weak and without ethics there is a real and present danger that there exists a potential to destroy their balance sheet.
